Tread Conditioning Brake Shoes
WheelSavers protect wheels and track
- WheelSaver tread conditioning brake shoes extend wheel and rail life
- Repair wheels and reduce kips
- Increase safety – semi-metallic friction material increases wheel-to-rail adhesion
- Provide a stable coefficient of friction in all service environments
- Protect wheels with 100% tread conditioning material contact when rigging sags
- Limit wheel tread defects – eliminate metal pick-up and tread grooves
- Cost less per braking mile – lab testing has shown that WheelSavers last longer than composition shoes
WheelSaver brake shoes are Engineered to Outperform (E2O) all others
WheelSaver repairs wheels and reduces kips
- E2O extends wheel and rail life
- E2O improves wheel-to-rail adhesion
WheelSaver’s 100% tread conditioning material protects wheels
- E2O maintains continual contact when rigging sags
- E2O runs cooler
WheelSaver’s semi-metallic friction material increases safety
- E2O maintains consistent stopping power, low heat fade
- E2O won’t groove tread, no metal pick up
WheelSavers prolong the life of wheels and track.
BEFORE: Large surface defect like the one shown on the R2 wheel (at left) increases kip forces, causing track and wheel damage. AFTER: During 55 days in service, WheelSaver repaired the tread defect on the R2 wheel (at right).
Metal from wheels and rails transfers to composite shoes. WheelSaver’s unique semi-metallic friction material is incapable of metal pick-up and will not groove the tread surface.
Keep your bottom line from taking a beating
Each of the eight wheels on a 143-ton railcar exerts an average of 17.875 tons of pressure on the top of the rail over an area smaller than the size of a dime. One wheel with a flat spot can increase that pressure by more than 300% of additional force each time the flat spot impacts the rail.
WheelSaver brake shoes reduce rail-destroying forces by repairing flat spots, protecting the top of the rail.
