EP-60 Control Valve

Overview   |   Features & Benefits

EP-60 is available in several overlay installation options, suitable for both new and retrofit applications. These can be easily upgraded to a standalone configuration.

Proven in more than 1,000,000,000 miles of revenue service, EP-60 allows the safe increase of train speeds for higher line capacity.

EP-60 provides instantaneous brake application and proportional control so every car delivers the same percentage of brake effort. This reduces in-train forces while significantly improving train control for increased safety, efficiency and savings.

Safety

  • Reduced stopping distance – 40 to 60% faster
  • Fewer derailments

Efficiency

  • Automatic train consist ID and sequencing – less terminal time
  • SmartCar interface – car health monitoring and diagnostics

Savings

  • Fuel Savings – 5%
  • Reduced wheel wear – 10%
  • Reduced brake shoe wear – 25%

The EP-60 system is made up of easy-to-use and highly reliable components that have proven reliable in more than one billion miles of revenue service.

Trainline Communications Controller
The communications command center of the EP-60 brake system is the Trainline Communications Controller (TCC). The robust TCC uses AAR-approved network protocols to instantly transmit brake commands from the locomotive to every car in the consist, while monitoring car status in real time. The TCC also manages train serialization, software downloads to car control devices and the event recorder interface.

Trainline Power Supply
The rugged and reliable Trainline Power Supply (TPS) powers the EP-60 electronically controlled pneumatic brake system. This unit features automatic polarity detection and correction as well as load-sharing capability to ensure clean, reliable power to the train.

Car Control Device (CCD)
The car control device (CCD), available in standalone and overlay configurations, is mounted on every ECP equipped railcar and controls the wagon’s brakes via an electronic control module. The CCD includes a long-life battery, power management electronics and uses very little electricity.

End of Car Connector + EOC Junction Box
Cars can be easily disconnected from one another and changed out using the EOC connectors equipped with a lanyard to allow automatic pull apart as well as push button manual disconnect.

Car ID Module Junction Box Assembly
The car IDM provides vehicle-specific information including road number, car type, empty and load weights, car length and brake constant.

Center Junction Box Locomotive ID Module
Plug-and-play junction boxes allow in-field maintenance.

Locomotive EOC Junction Box
The junction box unit is equipped with a lanyard allowing automatic pull-apart as well as push button manual disconnect.
